Curriculums :

  • Foundation of Design: Lectures and practical exercises looking at the roles that psychology and semiotics play in design. You'll examine the complex nature of design thinking and creative techniques, and the ways in which these relate to actual practice. You'll also be encouraged to explore your own personal responses to the design process.

  • Understanding Methodology and Procedure: Concentrating on the techniques and processes in research, modelling and drawing, this module equips you with a set of tools for designing, looking at research methods and ways to generate and record ideas.

  • Studio Practice:  You'll explore ways that the contemporary designer can negotiate a changing social, cultural, ecological and political terrain. You'll be encouraged to adopt a personal, ethical and ideological stance in tackling projects concerning the social, cultural, environmental and political domain. In the spring term, you'll work on ‘industry-based projects’, the briefings for which come from the commercial sector.

  • Design Management: This module aims to provide students with an overview of the knowledge and expertise design management brings to organisations and prepare them to work successfully with designers on strategic design issues.

  • Selection of Specialisation: User Experience / Product Design / Textile Design

  • User Experience: The discipline lays emphasis on understanding the fundamental importance of creating a visual vocabulary through drawing, the development of aesthetic judgment and values of form, proportion, image and language. The discipline encourages students to work on a variety of projects while majoring in selected sub-domains of UX Design.  The areas covered include UX Research, Wireframe Design, Low Fidelity Prototype, High Fidelity Design, typography, Presentation and type design, publication design, image-making, illustration, identity, branding, information, & communication systems in digital domains as well as analogous media.

As part of the curriculum, students learn to apply basic principles of design, knowledge of ergonomics, materials and manufacturing techniques as well as their own aesthetic sensibilities.

  • Textile Design: The Textile Design discipline encourages students to engage with a wide spectrum of materials and technology, from the perspectives of industry, sustainability, social responsibility and inclusive design. The curriculum emphasizes on building a variety of skills through increasingly complex design projects related to the apparel, furnishing and allied industries, with inputs in social sciences, craft economics, trends, brand identity, technology and computer-aided design.
